Precision Patients Can See — and Feel
What makes Nikon lenses stand out to your patients?
“Nikon Lenswear offers best-in-class technology, from coatings like SeeCoat Next to advanced progressive lenses like SeeMax Ultimate Z. We love digital options within our practice, and having tools that allow us to show patients the differences in lens thickness, progressive technology, and coatings really helps us differentiate ourselves — while also helping patients understand the tangible benefits of Nikon’s technology.”
What motivates you most as an optometrist in helping patients with their vision?
"I would say it’s the satisfaction of truly improving a patient’s visual outcome. Whether it’s a young child who’s never had glasses before and suddenly sees the world clearly for the first time, or glaucoma and AMD patients where we monitor closely to prevent further vision loss — being able to intervene early and manage these conditions makes a real difference.
Life moments are extremely important and should be cherished. You only get one chance to experience them, and you can’t press rewind. So why not make them as clear as possible and focused on the best outcome? Vision is our most important sense, and optimizing it ensures that the moments that pass us by are seen with the greatest clarity. Helping patients see their lives clearly, whether medically, refractively, or in everyday moments, is what motivates me most."
How do you recommend the right lens technology to patients during the exam?
“We've got lots of options that are available for patients. We can elevate their level of vision, experience, and overall lenswear experience. So when they're in the exam, I will recommend a lens technology, whether it be progressive, office-based lens, single vision. I use visual tools in the exam room to show them the differences between the different progressives.”
How does your optical team help educate patients about their lens options?
“We rely more on our optical team to educate because they'll have all the tools out there and they have more time to do that than I do in the exam lane. So we set up the patient pathway or the success for that patient with us educating on what they need — I think you need a progressive and an office lens or a regular pair of glasses and a pair of sun — and then we pass that recommendation to the optical team, who goes in more depth and detail in those recommendations. We found that to be the best use of everybody's time, expertise, and skills.”
How do advanced lens technologies improve patient outcomes and your practice workflow?
“Having confidence in the fact that I can minimize any sort of challenges that those patients will face with our eyewear. I certainly #1 what's best, and I value the technology that we're doing, but by providing better technology, we have fewer patient challenges with lens designs or prescription issues — which aren't actually the prescription, it's the lens design — or the technology in those lenses. By enhancing and working with better technology, you get fewer patients coming back with coating issues or other challenges with non-adapts, which in the end improves our flow and our patient experience. It costs us less because we're not having to see these patients multiple times for something that's just because the product isn't up to what it could be.”
How do Nikon’s dispensing tools help you deliver the best vision possible?
“Within the dispensing experience for our patients, Nikon provides us with digital tools that allow us to better illustrate and educate patients on differences in lens thickness, technology, progressive designs, and coatings. We can show them the differences between everything that exists and what their options are. With Nikon Lenswear technology, we can differentiate ourselves and ensure each patient gets the best experience. That’s one of our core pillars in our practice. We tend to gravitate towards things that are going to improve the patient experience and give each patient the absolute best outcome that we can achieve.”
