What is the most rewarding moment of your job?
"The moment when the patients slide the spectacles that you have just made for them, onto their face. Then you ask the question 'Can you see?' The answer that comes back 'Perfect', and a broad smile appears on their faces.”
Vision:
The Key to Life’s Best Moments
Vision isn’t just about sight — it’s about truly experiencing life’s most precious moments. Understanding this deep connection, my goal is to help others see and cherish life’s defining moments.
I have worn spectacles for 35 years. Putting glasses on was so satisfying. It was like opening up the world, and it encouraged my inquisitiveness. I was always someone that enjoyed the details of things and being able to see clearly.
That was amazing. I can describe the feeling as being submerged in water with no goggles to then finally breaking free. The glasses, even though quite basic, were amazing. I didn't have to sit so close to the television!
The idea of using a combination of science, technology and fashion to help people with their vision was amazing.
I was 10 when I first encountered the opticians. A little independent Optician in south London. The fact that they corrected my vision with spectacles changed everything for me. I felt more involved at school and started to thrive in the classroom all because I felt more confident in the school setting.
Seeing my children come into the world. That was amazing. Seeing their miniature features — feet, eyes, and ears — all too familiar but yet different. They are beautiful. Vision plays a part in these connections.
Yes. I call these “pin-drop moments”. These are the special moments in life where you have to stop. Take a moment. Absorb every part, detail, and feeling of that moment, as it’s precious and may never happen again. Vision is an important part of these moments. The detail, seeing your child walk for the first time. Life changing moments. They’re all done with the eyes.

"I played semi-professional football and as a striker, my vision had to be up to speed. Without lenses, I don’t think I would have scored as many goals as I did."
Why do you choose Nikon Spectacle Lenswear for your patients?
Nikon Spectacle Lenses are produced in the UK. The speed and quality of precision are superior to anything else on the market. The customer care, service and support are the extra layer of excellence that take them to another level in comparison with the any other lens supplier.
The advancement in varifocal design with a strong portfolio of lenses that cater for every possible scenario helped. Especially the innovation in the eLife Pro Series.
How do spectacle lenses contribute to patients' everyday lives?
Lenses are the key to their vision being the best it can. It is the main aspect of the patient journey that cannot be compromised. This is where our patients rely on our expertise to deliver the crisp and precise vision they need. It is the most important part of the patient journey, and it is important that the patients understand the impact of these lenses and the difference quality makes to their vision.
Could you share an experience that deeply impacted your view on vision care?
There were elderly patients that had struggled through covid and were not been able to leave their homes and had stayed indoors with spectacles that didn't work. Changing things so they can see, read and watch TV may seem like a small thing for some people, but for others, it lifted their spirits and allowed them to feel part of the world again.
What do you think makes your practice special for your patients?
I think our patients and customers love coming to see us because we remember their names, we make good tea, and we make them comfortable. Our door is always open, and there are people that don’t even bother coming for glasses or a contact lens check. They’ll come in to say hello because they’re in town and going to the theatre. It’s more than an optician, it’s a community.
